Project
Google Seed House
Context
In Vilnius Academy of Arts we were tasked with creating a furniture piece for a homeware brand. I chose Google.
Problem
As technology intrudes more and more into our lives, we seek realness, tangibility, friction. The digital world seems to disappear, and we return to simpler times, to nature. The interior merges with the environment and life resembles long-term camping.
2022
How will Google look like in 24 more years?
In accordance to its values - Bold, Optimistic, Human - Google is moving towards the more human physical realm.
Total nature and total luxury resembles Permanent Camping. This idea was the basis for the project.
I asked my brother to imagine how future interiors would look like. It was beautiful.
The process of sketching these living scenarios lead me to the 5 pieces: Sound Rocks, Seed Chair, Peaceful Tent, Terrain Rug and Cozy Rug.
Inspired by folding stools and log cabins, the Seed Chair is heavy and large and aims to bring more friction to a frinctionless digitalized reality. The simple geometric shape and minimal function makes the chair disappear and allows the person to experience life fully. Seed Chair is made of bleached heat-treated pine logs and recycled synthetic elastic fabric.
Because of its large size and unusual shape, the Seed chair can also be used as a coffe table or a place to nap.
The 1:1 prototype was made out of large cardboard tubes, so it needed a strong internal structure. The final wooden version would have far less parts.
An archetypal house, a small wooden chapel, a barn, or a Seed House.
